Program highlights
Coronary revascularization is a medical treatment for coronary artery disease, accounting for the highest volume of cardiac procedures funded by Cardiac Services BC. Similar to other Canadian provinces, there are regional variations across BC in the use of interventional cardiology and heart surgery procedures, as well as in patient outcomes.
We are working to improve care for coronary artery disease patients focusing on: benefiting patient health, improving the patient experience and making more efficient use of resources.
Cardiac Services BC annually reviews outcomes of PCI and CABG surgery to reduce unnecessary variation and improve patient care.
We are also strengthening the provincial management and delivery of cardiovascular perfusionist resources (specialized health professionals who operate the heart-lung machine during heart surgery).
